Looking for info about Moria instances

Postby Xyderias » Wed Apr 08, 2009 7:02 pm

Hello all,

One of the things that eluded me during my blazing run to 60 was a grasp of all of the instances in Moria and how they fit together. I've tried watching chat and listening to people talk and to be honest it seems like everyone is speaking in some sort of code or something. Guess this is the price for leaving for so long and coming back way behind the curve.

I have run zero instances past CD in the old content. What I'd like to know in a hopefully easily digestible manner is:

Exactly what is the instance progression in Moria? If my end goal is to kill the Watcher or whatever the big end boss is at this time, is there a specific progression of instances that need to be run to do so? And what exact gear would be necessary?

If someone could help me get up to speed about this it would be very much appreciated. This knowledge would allow me to know what to ask for in the way of runs so I can meet one of my biggest game goals.

Thank you!

Hiya Xy!

Please don't feel weird about knowing them and especially the acronyms. I felt the same way when I first started hearing them! Essentially there is not a progression of the instances but merely each one gives you a set of your radiance piece. Some are defintely harder than others.

FG = Fil Gashan (I think this one is gloves)
16th Hall (I think this one is shoulders)
The Forges (I know this one is chest piece)
Skum = Skumfil (I know this one is pants)
GS = Grand Stair (I think this one is boots)
DD = Dark Delving (I think this one is helm)

I wish I could list postively which one gives what piece but I've run them so many times I'm not exactly sure on some of them. I know one of the others could definitely give you that information though but essentially if you ARE wanting to do the Watcher, you will all six radiance pieces to keep the dread off of you. Most groups won't take any 60s will less than all 6 pieces.

Here's the kicker though. Each instance can take up to two hours to run it and kill the end boss mob. One ONE piece drops. So if you are constantly in new groups then all six people will need the piece and it could potentially take you a long time to get your piece. It's much better to go with the same group until all 6 get their piece which is not easy in itself. Then times that by six different instances and you have LOTS of time doing those instances.

I hope that is what you were looking for!

Thank you -- that is a huge help.

It is too bad they set it up this way -- essentially it is almost a roadblock for the myriads of casual players out there. Although I wouldn't mind doing all the runs necessary, I can see how it would be next to impossible to find a group that would stick together.

Maybe I'll set my sights on the Rift or something older...

Well, hopefully we'll soon be getting more deliberate in our efforts to organize people getting through the instances for the radiance armor. So don't give up yet! :-)
And you should be able to get to experience the Rift as well. Even though the loot may not be not super-usable at 60, the Rift itself is an experience that is well worth the time and effort! Also, a piece that drops from the last boss in the Rift is very helpful for the Watcher fight, so as we get Watcher efforts together, there will be more Rifting as well.

To piggyback on what Luth wrote, the Rift is a great big instance for you to start with and it's essential for kin members to run together (as well as the radiance instances) because it allows us as a kin to play together and get to know each other's styles. This is imperative for the higher end instances especially the Watcher and gives us that "practice" that we'll need before trying the big fella. So even though the Rift may be a 50+ instance, don't feel bad about running it because you think it's "older"! Not to mention it is tons of fun!

If you'll let us know what time frame you have to run instances (I know you said in an earlier post you normally play during the day when not many are on) we can try to help you get your pieces. I would venture to say most people are on in the evenings but there may be others that could get on during the day to help if they know ahead of time.

If people are mostly on in the evenings that is not a problem. The difficulty at the moment is finding time to play without taking away from a heavy responsibility load this time of year. The short term goal is to be able to log on at least a couple nights a week asap.

Although I'm not a huge fan of scheduling things in a game we all play for fun, if there was a way to know that, for instance, every Wednesday night the Kin would be doing something around my level then I could easily plan to be on then if possible. Even then you still need at least 6 people who want to do the same thing...
